The Upper Detroit Riverfront Habitat and Restoration Project seeks to improve not only the fish and wildlife habitat along the Detroit River, but also to improve public access opportunities on the river and historic canal system for fishers, boaters, and paddlers.
We learned during the community engagement process that many residents in the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood had never been kayaking before and would like to!
By exploring the Upper Detroit Riverfront from the water, you have an opportunity to get a first hand look at the unique natural, coastal ecosystems that are protected and preserved through this important project.

Detroit River Sports is located in the heart of the Jefferson- Chalmers community along the banks of the canals. They are a kayak and paddleboard tour & rental company committed to Detroit, and want to bring people out on the water to encourage more active lifestyles and take advantage of Detroit's most beautiful natural asset!
